Are your natural soap bars vegan?
Yes, our bars are vegan! At OG Soap, we’re fully committed to producing products that not only meet your skincare needs but also align with your values.
We’ve gone the extra mile to make sure our bars are free from animal fats and any animal-derived ingredients. We’ve carefully selected and incorporated the finest plant-based alternatives to deliver a high-quality product. Each bar is a testament to our dedication to cruelty-free, sustainable, and ethically sourced ingredients.
Do you test on animals?
No, we do not test on animals. OG Soap is completely against animal testing in the beauty industry, and only supports cruelty-free practices.
Our products are developed with a firm stance against any form of animal testing, and we advocate for alternatives that prioritise the safety of both your well being and the well being of our animal friends.
Can my kids use your soap bars?
Absolutely! We handcraft our soap bars with care, making them a great addition to your family’s skincare routine. Do keep in mind that when introducing any new product, it’s good practice to perform a patch test first, especially if your kids have sensitive skin. This helps ensure their skin’s compatibility with our product.
For kids, we recommend starting with our gentle and mild bars, such as the Calendula & Mango Butter Body Bar, Hemp & Coconut Milk Body Bar, or our Charcoal & Shea Butter Body Bar.
Just remember, every child’s skin is unique, so it’s a good idea to monitor their skin’s response and consult with a healthcare professional if you have any concerns.
How do you make your soap?
We take immense pride in our soapmaking process. At OG Soap we use the traditional Cold Process method. This method gives us complete control over the ingredients, making sure that each bar is of the highest quality. One of the unique aspects of our soapmaking is the inclusion of our homegrown ingredients, such as calendula, aloe, prickly pear, and hemp. These ingredients go straight from our farm and into your soap. These botanical additions set our bars apart and increase the skin-loving benefits of our soap. Our dedication to quality, sustainability, and the finest ingredients is what gives OG Soap its exceptional qualities.
We craft our soap using three fundamental ingredients: water, sodium hydroxide, and oil. It’s the magical fusion of these elements through a chemical reaction known as saponification that brings each bar to life.
During saponification, glycerin is produced as a byproduct; and together with a small percentage of free oils, it forms soap that’s hard, yet gentle on the skin. In commercial soapmaking, the glycerin portion is unfortunately removed and sold for high-end products like moisturisers and night creams.
The saponification process takes approximately 24 hours. Technically, the soap is ready for use at this point. However, due to the water content in the soap, the moisture needs time to evaporate. Depending on the water content during manufacturing, this curing process can take up to six weeks.
A fascinating fact about curing soap is that, much like fine wine, it improves with age. For example, our 100% olive oil soap, known as castile soap, may take anywhere from six months up to a year to reach its peak quality.

I have sensitive skin and struggle to use most soaps. Can I use your products?
Yes, definitely! All our products are made for sensitive skin. We use skin-safe and skin-loving ingredients like shea butter, mango butter, cocoa butter, and olive oil. We refrain from using harsh, synthetic fragrances. Our products are designed to be gentle and nourishing, so you can use them without worry.
Can I use your body bars on my face?
Technically, yes. But we recommend opting for our dedicated face bars. They’re specially formulated with high-quality oils and ingredients to address various skin types and concerns. Our face bars are designed to provide an extra level of care for the delicate skin on your face.
Whether you’re looking to combat dryness, soothe sensitivity, or simply maintain a healthy, radiant complexion, our face bars are perfectly suited to your unique needs.
How long do your soap bars last?
Our bars typically last one month or more, depending on how well you take care of your bar of soap. The key to extending the life of your bar is to keep it dry between uses. Follow our care instructions to maximise your bar’s longevity:
- Don’t let your soap drown in water, store it in a dry area. Excess water on your bar will cause it to melt.
- Use a drainage dish so that your soap can dry in between uses. Using a soap dish with holes is more hygienic and will make your bar last much longer.
- Regularly clean your soap dish with hot water. This will prevent any bacteria buildup.
- For extra hygiene, rinse your bar before you use it and after you use it.
- Use a cloth or loofah to extend the life of your soap as opposed to rubbing the bar directly on your skin.
Where are your products produced?
Our studio is situated in the Karoo where our products are handcrafted in small batches to ensure the highest quality. Mass production is something we avoid; we prefer to produce according to the demand.
A lot of time and effort has gone into sourcing local ingredients and we’ve made a conscious effort to support other local businesses.
How long will my order take to arrive?
You can expect your order to arrive within 3-5 working days. However, please note that load shedding may impact delivery times. If you experience any delays with your order, we apologise for any inconvenience and greatly appreciate your patience.
