OG Soap

3 Essential benefits of lavender soap

We know what it looks like, we know the smell — but why do we use it in skincare products?

Let’s take a look at where some of the lavender we use comes from, and what the benefits are of using lavender products.

A short story: how our commitment to organic lavender started

Our Organic Gwen Food Garden, filled with an abundance of organic vegetables and flowers, offers our founder (Gwen) a space to learn and explore. A Food Technologist turned Organic Gardener, Gwen’s gained incredible insight into certain processes and has contributed her expertise to the OG brand. For almost a decade now, she’s been in the garden — growing and nurturing her true love. Ultimately, Gwen has dedicated years of experience and knowledge to her garden, which is now the foundation of Organic Gwen.

As an Organic Gardener, she’s been able to experience the full effect of an organic lifestyle. Whether she’s preparing her produce for consumption, or using it for topical purposes, our founder has witnessed the way in which her life has changed since adopting a better way of living. So, having grown her own lavender, calendula, aloe (and lots more) all these years — our OG brand has been a flower waiting to bloom.

OG has the real deal

After some time, Gwen became intrigued by natural beauty products and began experimenting with her own soaps, salves, oils and creams. During this time, she became privy to the amount of synthetic fragrances being sold. She realised just how many people were being subjected to buying bottles of synthetic fragrances, and how poor the quality of these fragrances were. Gwenet, making her own lavender essential oil, quickly came to understand the benefits of using lavender straight from her garden. When she compared her essential oil to what she found in the stores, she was taken aback. It became clear to her that Lavender fragrances, and so many other fragrances, are overly synthesised. More often than not, these synthesised essential oils don’t provide the true benefits and aren’t always skin-safe.

So, ever since then, OG has been determined to share the real deal. We grow our own organic lavender, and make our own lavender essential oil. We then supplement the soaps with some of our oil, and the end result is a gorgeous lavender bar.

Three benefits of Lavender in soap

A versatile herb, Lavender can be used for a number of different situations and reasons.

Here, we highlight three benefits of using lavender Soap.

  1. Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties

The antibacterial properties in lavender can help heal cuts, wounds and insect bites. This makes it great for those summer months when mozzies are out to get us. And the anti-inflammatory properties stimulate cell formation, which reduces scarring and promotes faster healing of the wound or burn mark.

  1. Eczema remedy

Because lavender cleanses gently, but doesn’t strip the skin of its natural oils, it’s a wonderful ingredient for treating eczema. This natural remedy is good for soothing the skin, reducing inflammation, and relieving some of the general symptoms. Often this skin condition causes dry and irritated skin. Therefore, lavender in soap can help heal the skin much quicker.

  1. Promotes relaxation

There’s no right or wrong time to use lavender products, but people do tend to use it more in the evening since it has wonderful calming effects. It promotes good sleep, while easing anxiety. There’s nothing better than a lavender scent filling your bathroom up at night, giving you an environment to decompress and relax.

Seek the truth

It’s important to understand and know what you’re putting on your skin. After all, our skin is fragile and protecting it should be high on the list. There’re many herbs and plants out there which impart excellent properties, but the quality of the product will make or break the effectiveness of it. Always ask questions so that you can be sure of what goes on your skin.
